Dragon Boat Racing is claimed to be Australia's fastest growing sport, and for good reason. The rhythmical paddling promotes mental health and the exercise can challenge people of all fitness levels. The sport promotes teamwork. Our dragon boat is crewed by eighteen paddlers, a sweep who steers the boat and a drummer calls time in the front. Our club describes itself as semi-serious. We like to combine fun and friendship with a disciplined approach to our sport and a good, "feel great", workout.

Since our club started in 2005 we have paddled at regattas in Sydney, Newcastle, and Canberra and our Dragons Abreast paddlers have paddled in Queensland with breast cancer survivors from around the world.

Dragons Abreast Paddling Together

Our boat is housed near Sandy Beach (see map) and we paddle on the straight stretch of the river between Sandy Beach and the Weir. We welcome new paddlers to any training session. Your first paddle is free and after that you pay $10 per paddle which is deducted from the membership fee when you join. Contact Jess on 0428 274 593 or email info@oranadragonboat.com for more information.

Our Dragons Abreast paddlers paddle in the sporting team but also form their own composite teams to paddle against other breast cancer survivors at regattas. We are indebted to them for all their hard work on our behalf. Everyone in the club is committed to supporting breast cancer survivors and raising awareness of breast cancer related issues.
